How To Care For Dentures
Even if you wear complete dentures, you must still have good oral hygiene. This means brushing your gums, tongue, and palate before putting them in every morning to remove plaque and stimulate circulation in the tissues.
Dentures should be brushed daily (like teeth) to remove any food and plaque that may have accumulated and to prevent staining. You should also never sleep with your dentures. The tissue under your denture needs to breathe and if you do not remove your dentures at night, you can get a fungal infection. Dentures should be kept in a glass with water and a denture cleaning tablet or liquid, to keep your denture clean and prevent them from drying out.

Types Of Dentures
There are many different dentures available for a range of scenarios. The main types of dentures are conventional dentures, and these can be classified as complete or partial. Complete dentures are used for patients who are edentulous (missing all teeth) in one or both arches.

Immediate dentures

Tooth-supported overdenture
When teeth are extracted, bone resorption occurs, and this decreases the stability and retention of the denture during function (chewing, swallowing). This problem can be avoided by retaining some natural teeth (usually 2 or 3), performing root canal treatment on them, and then fitting them with retentive attachments that the denture can be anchored to.
Implant retained overdenture
This is more common in the lower arch and uses 2 or more implants (titanium screws in the jaw). The denture is not permanently attached to the implants, instead, they fit together and lock into place to provide more stability than conventional dentures during function. They are removed every night for cleaning and to allow the tissues to rest.
