Digital Smile Design provides the ability to show you what your future smile will look like. We work with you to understand what you do and do not like as well as diagnose structural issues within the mouth or jaw.
Everyone wants a beautiful smile but not everyone trusts the process of getting it. Most, if not all, patients have a clear idea of what they want their smile to look like, but they remain skeptical that the dentist will be able to make it a reality. If only there was a tool that allowed visualisation and collaboration between dentist and patient so they could discuss and agree upon the proposed treatment. Well, what if we told you that such a tool exists?

WHAT IS DIGITAL SMILE DESIGN?
Digital Smile Design is a comprehensive methodology and dental treatment planning tool that has been used over the last ten (10) years to create strategies to design better smiles by enhancing a dentist’s diagnostic vision, improving treatment planning as a team, facilitating better communication between dentist and patient, increasing case acceptance, and allowing treatment to be performed in a more efficient way.
The treatment plan is made based on a thorough analysis of the patient’s dental and facial proportions. By using photographs, videos, and temporary mock-ups, the dentist can get a better understanding of how the patient’s lips, gums, and teeth, are impacting their smile.
What Are The Steps For Digital Smile Design? First, We Scan Of Your Mouth, Teeth & Gums
After having a discussion with your dentist about the benefits of treatment, and deciding to move forward with treatment, the next step will be to take a scan of the mouth using an intra-oral scanner. This will take photos and videos from all angles of the mouth and is essential for treatment. They will take frontal and profile views in multiple angles to obtain an accurate representation of your current teeth. During the scan, the images will pop up on the screen in real time and can be verified for accuracy. This data is then imported into the DSD software.

This Is Where The Magic Happens!
With all the data collected, our dental team here at Dove Dental will be able to show you what you can expect from treatment, and we will also help the lab to create a physical model.
The best part of this entire process is that there is total patient involvement from start to finish and this ensures that your expectations can be communicated to our team.
You will also be able to see and approve the 3-D model and mock up images of what your smile will look like after treatment is complete. Parts of the model may even be placed in the mouth temporarily to give a better idea of what your teeth will look like as you speak and smile.
After patient approval, the restoration process will commence and oftentimes, the model or mock up is used in the mouth as a preparation guide. Each tooth is restored individually and sequentially until the process is finished and polishing of the completed restorations can occur.
Eliminate the guesswork (will I love or hate how my smile looks?) and feelings of powerlessness from your dental visits with DSD. Become an active member of the dental team instead! It is your smile after all, shouldn’t you have a say in creating it?
