Hi, I’m Dr Angus, the principal dentist of Dove Dental here at Waurn Ponds in Geelong.
Last week, one of our long-term patients, Richard from Charlemont, came in to discuss his stained and worn down teeth due to many years of teeth grinding. He has been wanting to have a smile upgrade for a while, and decided to finally do something about it. After completing a full smile assessment, we decided that Porcelain Veneers would be a suitable option for him. He got pretty excited and asked me, “Hey Angus, I’m pretty stoked about finally doing something with my smile, but can you take me through the process?”
I thought, this is a great topic, especially for people who are considering porcelain veneers, so I decided to make a short video about it.
So, what is the process of a porcelain veneers procedure?

Step 1: The smile consultation
Let’s start with the first step, scheduling a smile consultation. During this consultation, we will examine your teeth and discuss your goals for your smile. We will also take x-rays, photos and digital scans of your teeth to create a custom treatment plan and digital smile design.
Step 2: Preparing your teeth
Once your treatment plan has been created, we will prepare your teeth for the veneers. This involves removing a very small amount of enamel from the surface of your teeth to make room for the porcelain veneers. This is usually done under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain.
Step 3: Scanning and temporary veneers
After your teeth have been prepared, we will take a digital scan of your teeth. This scan will be sent to the lab, where your porcelain veneers will be custom-made to fit your teeth. This process usually takes a few weeks, so you’ll need to wear temporary veneers in the meantime. This is also a great opportunity for you to experience your new smile, get some feedback from your loved ones, and let us know if there is anything about the final veneers you would like to adjust.
Step 4: Placing the veneers
When your porcelain veneers are ready, you’ll return to our office to have them placed. We will carefully bond the veneers to the surface of your teeth using a special dental adhesive. We’ll also make any necessary adjustments to ensure that the veneers fit and look natural.
And that’s it! The process of getting porcelain veneers may seem daunting, but it’s actually a fairly straightforward procedure with minimal discomfort.
Here at Dove Dental, we can help you work towards a natural-looking smile, just like Richard’s. We also offer flexible payment plans so you can get your dream smile faster.
If you have been thinking about upgrading your smile, we would love to look after you.
